Legal Representation

Current Capacity

Have you been arrested while exercising your First Amendment rights or facing charges as a result of your political organizing? If so, please contact us at austinlawyersguild@protonmail.com. We strive to help connect protesters to criminal defense attorneys who support your movement involvement. Many of these attorneys are ALG and NLG members. We have been successful in connecting many protester-defendants with criminal defense attorneys for free or at a reduced cost. However, we cannot guarantee this service. It depends on many factors, and our lawyer members have to speak to you before agreeing to any representation.

Please remember that ALG is a membership-based organization made up of lawyers, law students, legal workers and activists. ALG is not a law firm, has no employees, and is not agreeing to represent you or entering into an attorney-client relationship with you based on your use of this website or correspondence through email.

If you or someone you know has just been arrested and is still in jail and are seeking ALG attorney assistance, please call our Jail Hotline at (512) 817-4ALG(4254). If you are out of jail and have more general questions or less urgent needs, please email us at austinlawyersguild@protonmail.com

If you are planning an event and expect that people might be as risk of arrest, please email us ahead of time to ensure that our Jail Hotline will be available and so we can try to have volunteer attorney's on call. Last minute requests are especially taxing and difficult to field.

Since the uprisings after the murder of George Floyd, ALG's primary focus has been the criminal defense of protesters. While other chapters have more attorneys bring civil cases on behalf of clients who had their rights violated, we have a very small capacity for that work at this time. However, you are free to reach out to us to discuss your potential civil case.

If you are looking for a civil attorney related to a police misconduct claim, we encourage you to contact the Texas Legal Services Center below:

Please click here for information on how to join ALG (no dues required!) so we can add you to our list. Our clients tend to benefit from attorneys with some criminal defense experience. But if you're a lawyer who wants to support protest activity, we want to know who you are!
